CFB 27 update 1.005 is the largest patch the game has received since launch, and it is the one EA Sports has been signaling for the past two weeks. The update is live on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as of July 16, 2026. Here is everything the CFB 27 update touches and what it means for your existing saves.
The Coach XP overhaul
The single biggest change in the CFB 27 update is the replacement of the Coach XP slider with three preset options. This is not a tuning change; it is a structural one. The Career setting (1.0x) is the new default, and it is the one EA designed the entire Dynasty Blueprint system around. If you were running your dynasty on the default slider before the update, the Career setting will feel familiar but tighter.
Why EA replaced the slider
According to the official Campus Huddle post, faster progression was breaking the long-term Dynasty loop. When coaches hit max level too early, the entire coach archetype system collapsed, because every coach ended up with every perk. The three new settings preserve the long-term structure of Dynasty while giving players a meaningful choice about how fast they want to move through the arc.
Recruiting rebalance in your existing save
The recruiting changes in the CFB 27 update apply immediately to your existing dynasty. CPU competition for top-rated recruits is more aggressive. CPU teams are better at prioritizing and retaining recruits after extending offers. Late-cycle recruiting dead zones — where recruits end up with no viable offers — are less common.
EA has flagged this as a "two-part fix," with the second part arriving in a future CFB 27 update. The offseason player progression bump is also part of a two-part rollout. The first part is in 1.005; the second part will further tune recruiting generation and player progression.
Road to Glory changes
For Road to Glory players, the CFB 27 update fixes the EDGE position battle progression issue. EDGE players who were stuck behind the depth chart because position battles would not trigger can now advance properly. A more complete fix is in next week's update; EA's workaround recommendation is to transfer to another school until then.
The Cap Breaker application bug is also being tracked, and a fix is in development.
Gameplay stability
Two gameplay issues are fixed in the CFB 27 update:
- Defensive package persistence — Custom defensive packages no longer reset to default when the offense runs hurry up or no huddle.
- Switch Stick responsiveness — Switching defenders via the right stick is now snappier, particularly during rapid defensive player changes.
Coach Adjustments carryover bug fixed
A longstanding bug where Coach Adjustments configured in Game Settings would not carry into Dynasty Mode has been fixed. If you were saving a defensive scheme in Game Settings and finding it reset every time you loaded your dynasty, that should now be resolved.
What is NOT in this update
The community asked for several features that did not make it into 1.005:
- Standalone XP sliders for Road to Glory. EA has explicitly confirmed these are not coming back.
- Transfer portal reduction to 8–10 players. The current default stays.
- Custom defensive package editor. Not in this update.
What to expect in the next CFB 27 update
EA has previewed the next CFB 27 update, which is expected within the next 7–10 days. It will include:
- More late-cycle recruiting adjustments
- Additional offseason player progression tuning
- A complete fix for the EDGE position battle issue
- A fix for the Cap Breaker application bug
- More pancake block tuning
- Defensive package and Switch Stick additional polish
How the CFB 27 update affects your online dynasty
Online Dynasty commissioners should set the Coach XP speed setting for the entire league as soon as possible. The setting locks in for the season, so if you do not pick, the new Career default will apply. If you want the Simulation or Casual setting, the commissioner needs to change it before the next recruiting cycle kicks off.
For offline dynasties, the setting can be changed at any time, and it applies immediately.
